Models in the Flesh

1.Which is your favorite portrait photo that you took? Why?

My favorite is the photo of Will Kostka because he is just a majestic human being. He loves being in the moment and that made the picture even better than I expected. He is the one and only savior, he brightened up my day from this portrait.

2.Which of these lighting techniques do you think you can apply for future picture taking? Explain.I think the split lighting. I like how it shows two different colors. The light side pops more while the dark side adds some shadow to the picture making it even better then what I expected it to come out to.

Cretu Couple

I wanted my image to communicate that you can make photoshop fun. I wanted to choose a painting where I could turn it into something funny. In the American Gothic photo the husband and wife both looked like they disliked each other. Therefore, I chose Kanye and Kim Kardashian who are a famous couple that recently broke up. Advice that I would give to people who are going to create one of these is that to make sure you have all your details down. For some of the parts I missed some key points that I had to get rid of, and if I didn’t realize it could have made my picture worse.

Answers to the Shadow Reflection Image

What is the distinct mood of the photograph?

The distinct mood in the photograph that stands out to me is calmness. Calmness stands out to me because the photo isn’t doing a lot, what I mean by that is I didn’t have to make so many edits to make it better than the original photo. I also think it is calm because of the colors because they both mix to make a calm color.

What does the photo make you think about? This photo makes me think about Nov. 6 at 4:45pm. This is because I had hockey practice with my fellow OP brothers, and it brought me joy being together with everyone and making memories. This image makes me remember that day. It also makes me think about looking up while driving at the sky and seeing the cool colors that mix.

What in the photo jumps out at you? To me, the mixing of the colors stands out to me. They jump out at me because since they mixed it adds more details to the photos. It also jumps out at me because in the middle where the color meets the mixing of the color creates a new photo.

How does the photo make you feel? The photo makes me feel relaxed. It makes me feel relaxed because the photo makes me think about a nice cool night looking out the window and feeling the breeze blowing on my face. It makes me feel very relaxed.

What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography?  I would say to try and not do too much to make a photo stand out. I think that if you do the small things to make the photo stand out to the viewers. I would also say try and get everything in the photo and make things colorful to make things pop.

Q1 How did you choose the specific types of food for each portrait? What is their significance? Explain – be specific! (3 sentences min.) For the first one, there really is no significance because my partner chose it. For the second one I chose the apple for my dad because I knew that when i turned it black and white and left the apple the original color would pop and catch the eye of certain people. Other than that there is no major significance for the foods I chose.

Q2 Consider the lighting in your photographs. What was the light source in each of your photos. What time of day? How did it affect the mood and atmosphere of the portraits? Explain – be specific!  (3 sentences min.) For the first picture, we chose a certain area it because the light was facing us and it would add certain features to the photo it was around 12 p.m. For the second picture, it was in the morning at 7 a.m. and we turned on the lights above the oven for better lighting to make the color pop out.  I think it affected certain moods because it made both photos pop.

Q3 Think about the composition of your photos. Name the composition technique you used for each photo. Why did you choose to crop your photos as shown? Be specific! (3 sentences min.) For the second photo, I used the rule of thirds and cropped my photo because it was too vertical.  For the first photo, I used the Fill the Frame rule because I got close up to my subject. I cropped both photos to have more color in the photo.

Q4 How do the colors and color splash technique in your photographs contribute to the overall impact of the images? Why did you choose to mask the specific areas in color for each photo? Be specific!  (3 sentences min.) The color splash helped make my photos better because when I added the color it made the photo pop more and caught my eye. I chose to mask the photos when I removed the background. When i did this and added color, it made the photos pop more in color.

Q5 Consider the technical aspects of your photography, such as focus (lens size 75-300(lg) or 18-35(reg), or iphone mode/focus), depth of field (blurry background), and exposure (value in PS adjustment of your black, grays, whites). How did you use these techniques to enhance your images? Be specific! (3 sentences min.) For my iPhone, I used portrait mode to get a clear focus on my subject so I didn’t need to do so much editing. For the camera I used lens focus 75-300 and when I used this it also helped me get a better focus and not need to do so much editing. For the most part, I used certain techniques where I didn’t need to edit as much.

Q6 What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting food portraits? Be specific! (3 sentences min.) I would say to make sure you get good focus on your photos so that you don’t need to have to do so much editing. I would also say to choose certain foods that hve a distinct color so that when you add the color back the photo pops more. I would also say make sure you know how to work phoitoshop.

1. What strengths and weaknesses do you see in your own work? I would say that for my weaknesses, some of my photos  aren’t always fully focused. I would say that for strengths I get good angles for certain photos and for the ones that are focused turn out very good. I think that there are still some things that I could work on.
2. How might you improve or refine your approach in future photography projects? I will try and get better angles. I will try and focus on getting the lense to focus more to get a better version of the photos.
3. Pick one of your photos, what emotions or messages did you intend to convey through this photograph? For my focusing on one color photo, I think that this was my best picture. To me when I see the picture it makes me feel calm by just focusing on certain points. I was trying to relate that small things such as color could make a picture be more entertaining then it already was.
4. Are there specific elements of art you would like to explore further in your photography? I would say that there aren’t specific elements that I could focus on, but I could focus on small things to make photos better. If I did these things I could make my photos 10x better.
5. What concepts or techniques do you want to experiment with in your next project? I would like to focus on getting a better photo of something that feels 3d. I think I could focus on this more because in my 3d photo I wouldn’t say that I completely fells 3d just when you look at it. This is what I would like to work on.

I enjoyed finding the right objects to take photos of. I liked looking for the right objects. And finding a peaceful view.

I don’t think I had any problems since I take photos with a more bigger and more difficult camera. I would say that the only problem I had is when I sometimes couldn’t take the photos because I messed something up with the camera. But other then that I would say i didn’t have any major problems.

Next photoshoot I will try and let the lens focus more before taking the photo to get a better outcome. I will also get upclose to the objects for a better outcome. I will also try getting better pictures.
